Awesome lens and a huge upgrade from the standard 16-50mm kit lens that comes with the a6000. Being a prime you can't zoom in but the amount of light this thing is able to get fr that wide f1.8 aperture is insane! Again, comparing this to the kit lens, it's like night and day. Kit at 35mm is f5.6 vs f1.8. That alone is a huge difference. Very sharp as well, great color rendition and looks and feels great - doesn't matter parts of it are plastic, it's good quality. Also with the optical steady shot (OSS), this thing is the real deal. It is pretty pricey, specially comparing it to the 50mm f1.8 prime (which is just as amazing) but as I understand it, the 35mm is more complex with more glass elements which is harder to make etc. I think it's worth the money. I thought about off brands which are half the price, but you lose the OSS and it's not as fast and bright. So overall great lens, go buy one for your a6000 or any NEX camera and see the difference/improvements! I purchased this in January when there was a sale. So far the lens takes great photos on my NEX 7 - sharp, vibrant color and contrast. The only issue I have with this lens is manual focus. I also have the Zeiss 24/1.8, 55-210, 18-55 and 16/2.8. The focus ring is good to work with on all those lenses especially the zeiss 24/1.8. There is a huge price point difference - maybe that is why the focus ring on the 35/1.8 is not great (or) maybe it is just my copy. The auto focus is slower than the zeiss as well and hard to get in low light scenarios when manual focus would have been great. I work around this with the flexible spot auto focus option that the camera provides. If the focus ring was easier to use, this would be a five star lens.

I bought this lens as a secondary to my kit lens and it has become my new primary lens. While 35mm can a bit awkward to use when taking pictures of people in a cramped space, it's PERFECT for shooting in 95% of the situations I'm in and this lens does WONDERFULLY in low light conditions. Bokeh is beautiful. Couldn't be any happier! Examples of my shots are posted to my blog. It's my nickname plus .com at the end. BUY THIS LENS!

I bought this to supplement my other lenses for my new A6000 (formerly owned a NEX-6). I also have the 50mm, 20mm, and 55-210mm primes and the 16-50PZ (kit lens) and 18-105PZ zooms. I really wanted a sharp, bright "50mm equivalent" E-mount lens but didn't want to have to take out a 2nd mortgage to do so (yes, I'm looking at you Zeiss). This 35mm lens really fills out my prime collection. It's very sharp and has a flexible field of view. All my E-mount lenses serve a particular purpose; I wouldn't want to part with any of them (well, I did part with my original 16mm in favor of the much, much sharper 20mm). I watched for a $50-off sale and bought through Sony's EPP (10% more off), so I got what I think is a great bargain for one of Sony's best E-mount lenses.

Now that I have a zoom kit lens, zoom telephoto and wide angle, I started to consider prime lenses. I tried this one (and the 50mm Sony lens). The f1.8 is useful. And the limit to one focal length is helpful in that it forces me to frame shot. The quality is excellent. And yes, I am aware of off brand 30mm lenses for half the price. Still, I am enjoying this one.

I bought this lens based on the reviews, and it is no doubt one of the best lenses I've ever owned. Very sharp and has an almost ideal focal length for the NEX. The autofocus is a little slow in lower light, and I'm more dependent on continuous AF than other lenses. While the lens is generally amazing, I think it is only marginally better than other lenses that cost much less, including the Sigma 30 (though it doesn't have OSS). In my opinion, it is not as good as the SEL 50 1.8, which costs less as well. Granted, the 35mm focal length has a different "look", but you have to question the price difference compared to the 50. In all, it is the essential prime for the NEX (IMO) and it stays attached to my NEX 6 almost all of the time, which says something.

Got this lens last April 2013 and so impressed with the quality of the pictures I had taken. Lens was so quick to focus and shots were so crisp. Low -light shots for indoors is now less of a problem.

Previously I was using the Sony Zeiss 24/1.8 as my main lens on the NEX-5N. I liked it a lot but always wondered if it really was worth $1100. About a month ago, I bought a M-Mount Zeiss lens and realized the 24/1.8 didn't seem like it was worth the money anymore. I played around with other M-mount lenses but missed having AF. Eventually I bought the Sony 35mm/1.8. I wasn't expecting much from the 35/1.8 (especially since it was a pure sony design) I was blown away by how wrong I was. If you look at the two pictures I attached, the 35mm 1.8 is capable of some very nice details. At 1.8 it's a little softer but once you stop down, it gets very sharp The biggest thing I like about this lens, over the Zeiss 24/1.8, is it has optical stabilization. You can get sharp shots at 1/15s shutter speed and have a decent chance at 1/5s. So you can use lower ISO numbers indoors, compared to the 24/1.8. With the money you save from buying this over the 24/1.8, you can go buy another lens for your set.

This lens is just average. The Sigma 30mm is sharper at f2.8, and at nearly a third the price it's a much better value. If you can do without the extra stop and image stabilization, skip this one until the price comes down (if it ever does). Additionally, I think the color of the lens is ugly. It's somewhat shiny so it doesn't really match the matte finish of any of the black NEX bodies. You end up with a shiny black lens, silver lens mount, and a matte black body. Ugly. And if you have a camera body that isn't black it just looks ridiculous. Why did they start making lenses that only come in black while still releasing different color bodies with a silver lens mount? It doesn't make any sense at all.

The editor made a mistake. This is a 35mm lens. With a so-called crop factor of 1.51 it may be compared to a 52.5mm lens on a full-frame camera, but nevertheless this is a 35mm lens.
